Lyrics

Street Team

I would like to take a moment to thank all of you for the support you have shown me this past year. I am humbled by the fact that anyone listens to my music. Knowing that these ideas and thoughts can break through and make a connection is something that I will always appreciate and it will never be taken for granted. 2007 was a good year. I learned and grew as a friend, father, and husband. I welcome you to take the ride as we move on.. Always moving.. I am a restless soul. I fear only idleness and apathy. I will raise my voice a little louder in 08'. I thank you for the company .

All the love to you.

With peace,
Bill

Bill Toms, Tom Breiding On The Road Promoting Their Music
By Julie Toye
For The Herald Standard

Bill Toms easily earned the reputation in 2006 as being Pittsburgh's hardest working and most traveled musician, in addition, certainly, to already being known as one of its most accomplished and artful song writers and performers.

In late 2005 after releasing his fifth CD, "The West End Kid," Toms took his guitar that the airlines lost twice in baggage and his music on the road to other states and Europe to meet new audiences. Sometimes, he traveled alone for solo acoustic shows, with one or two other musicians or with his full, mighty electric band, Hard Rain. No matter where he played, Toms, the former 20-year lead guitarist for Joe Grushecky, met receptive audiences who wanted only to know when he was returning.

Put an electric guitar in Bill Toms' hands, and he'll be glad to play with the volume cranked.

But sometimes he likes to unplug.

"Playing acoustic shows, you can connect with an audience better. There's more intimacy. People in these settings tend to be there more for the music," says Toms, who's performed in front of rock 'n' roll crowds for 20 years alongside Joe Grushecky as a member of the Houserockers, and for the better part of a decade with his own band, Hard Rain.

An Interview with Bill Toms
Monitor This Magazine, Nashville, TN
By Brittney Pugh
June 2007

If you're anything like me, you long for the time when John Cougar Mellencamp ruled the airwaves and Bruce Springsteen was in the height of his glory days.  In a world where violence and the booty are at the forefront of every song, it's no wonder we dreamily recall the days of simplistic Dylan-esque little ditty's.  Look over your shoulders no longer dear readers, for I have found the key to your happiness and his name is Bill Toms.  Toms, a Western Pennsylvania native, is chock full of that old school rock n' americana folky charm we all know and love.  Backed by unbelievable lyrics, golden guitar solos, and the working man's power vocals, Toms passionate performances will bring you to your knees for our country.  His music smacks of the down home values you've been missing since 1985.  Check out his latest album "The West End Kid" in stores now.

First things first, when is your new album coming out?  "Well, my plan is to have it out right after Christmas.  It would be two years since 'The West End Kid' came out, and I would like to get it out then so I could start touring next spring and summer.  I don't write concept albums, but I looked back and realized that I had written all of these songs about war for the new album.  I wrote one particular song called 'The Fourth of July' which is kind of the middle point of the album.  The song is actually about my uncle who died in WWII when he was 19 years old.  It really hit me when I got older how that one incident changed the shape of our family for generations to come."

What would be your ultimate musical collaboration?  "That's really tough because there are so many!   I would have to do a top few.  Hank Williams, Tom Waits, Keith Richards, Woody Guthrie.  Those are the ones off the top of my head"

What was that first album that made you realize that you wanted to be a musician?  "The Clash, London Calling.  That album came out the year I graduated high school.  I had a friend that knew I was trying to write songs, and he gave me this album and I listened to it constantly.  My Dad would send me on interviews for college, and I would go and drink coffee at McDonald's and come back home later and say, 'Yeah, they said they'd call' just knowing that it wasn't what I wanted.

If you had to pick one song of yours that spoke for your entire body of work, what would you pick?  "There is a song on my last album 'The West End Kid' called 'Walk with an Angel Tonight.'  It's about hope and faith, and really anything that motivates you to that place.  That is really the song that speaks for me.

Special thanks to Bill Toms.

"I have a recurring feeling of isolation that pops up in my life," Bill Toms says. "I think everybody has that moment in their life where they feel totally alone."
